Fabric Quality and Grading Systems - Quality Control

In the apparel manufacturing industry, there is no shortage of standards and grading systems for measuring quality. Manufacturing processes, equipment, teamwork, and accountability all are important, but if fabric quality falls short, nothing else can make up for it. Apparel manufacturers judge a number of aspects of fabric quality, including color, drape, hand, durability, conformance, and number of defects. Garment quality is judged with respect to fit and seam integrity, among other characteristics. Product performance, such as shrinkage and smooth drying, also must be measured.

Fabric Grading Procedure
1. Determine the fabric quantity to be inspected.
2. Select the fabric rolls for inspection.
3. Place the fabric roll on inspection frame/table.
4. Roll and once at the end of the roll.
5. Inspect for visual defects at a speed slow enough to find the defects.
6. Check that the roll contains the meters as stated by the fabric supplier.
7. Major defects fine then to mark that area with marker and paper tape and sticker.
8. Record the faults of the fabric on the fabric quality report and give the grade of the fabric.

Fabric Inspection/Grading System
There are various types of grading systems:
1-) Dallas system.
2-) Graniteville "78" system.
3-) 4 - point system.
4. 10 - point system.
